Treating dog ear problems
Treating dog earn problems can be complicated. Dogs are not like people, where they can tell us they have an ear infection. Dog ear infection symptoms aren't always noticeable. To treat dog ear infections, it will need to be done by prescribed medications from your vet. Your dog will need antibiotics to help eliminate the infection. Dog earn infection symptoms usually result in shaking their head, rubbing their ear again a pillow or surface, and scratching at their ear.
Dog earn problems are common, since their ears tend to go uncleaned. Dogs roll their head's around outside and it's quite easy for them to get bacteria infections in their ears. Ways to prevent ear infections in dogs, is to regularly clean their ears. A dog's ear should be cleaned once a month. Cleaning your dog's ear can be done with a cotton ball, and some vitamin E oil. I'd avoid using alcohol. Vitamin E oil can clean a dog's ear effectively. It won't cause irritation and it kills bacteria.
An ear infection in a dog can be serious if it goes untreated. It's easily treatable when they have an ear infection. Prescribed antibiotic ear drops are typically used for treatment. It may seem easy treating dog ear infections. Well, getting the actual drops into your dog's ear isn't a real picnic. Your dog will most likely try to fight you on it. Some dogs might be better about it. It all depends on the behavior of the dog, but usually they'll try to resist to some degree. Some can get quite aggressive and might even try to bite you.
There are some home remedies that also can be used in treating dog ear infections. You shouldn't ignore going to the vet, and getting prescribed antibiotics though. Essential oils can be used to treat ear infections. Although, you should not put any drops directly into their ear canal. Best to just clean around their ear canal with essential oils. Essential oils are anti-viral and anti-bacterial. Essential oils have antibiotic properties. Vinegar can also be used to clean your dog's ears.
Getting the ear drops in your dog's ear is the trick. It's best to do it when they're laying down and not expecting it. You can casually rub their tummy, and get them nice and relaxed. Then flip open their ear lobe and squirt in the ear drops on the infected ear when they're not expecting it. Sometimes placing a treat on floor can be helpful. It distracts your dog and makes it easier.
Your vet can probably demonstrated how to get the ear drops in. Two people might be needed. Depends on which method is easier. I personally find it easier to do it myself. If you're dog becomes fidgety, then you might not get the drops in their infected ear.

I have a dog prone to ear infections, and when I have to treat with a ear wash or drops, I do it outside. My dog can shake her head so hard after the drops or wash, that we are all wearing it! Great article.
