Treatment for Hernia Problems
Seeing that man is on the top rung of the evolutionary ladder, it is safe to say that we are well designed and well built. Every part has its place and function. However, what happens when something goes wrong with this well built machine and things aren't in their proper place? That's what happens with hernias as organs bulge out of place due to weakened body tissue.
Hernias can affect people of all ages from infants to adults. It can also occur in both sexes but men are more prone to it than women. This is because men tend to strain themselves more in manual labor which results in organs protruding from the wall cavity. The different types of hernia include: hiatus, ventral, umbilical, inguinal and femoral. The most common type of hernia is direct inguinal hernia which can happen in both men and women. The intestine wraps itself in loop in the groin area which causes it to bulge. Exclusive to men is the indirect inguinal hernia. This might have started in childhood where the intestinal canal loops on itself and enters the scrotum resulting in an abnormal growth of the scrotum.
When a hernia is first detected, it is usually not painful but you do what to get it checked out by a doctor. If left untreated, the hernia can get larger and then it becomes painful and other complications might arise. Therefore, it is always a good idea to take care of these things early.
Treatment of hernias usually includes hernia girdles for men and women if it is in the abdominal region. This type of binding provides additional support for the abdominal wall and prevents further protrusion. However, this is a temporary solution and most hernias are repaired with surgery. On average, 600 000 Americans go through hernia surgery each year.
The after care of hernia surgery is to avoid lifting heavy objects and to wear a hernia girdle to prevent an occurrence.
