Amsterdam styled bikes are becoming more and more popular each year here in the United States and Trek is capitalizing on it by producing their own version of the traditional Amsterdam bicycle.
The ECO Trek Belleville bicycles are a bike that can be used for everything from recreational riding to commuting. If you are a hardcore commuter that travels 15 miles each way 5 days a week with hills than the ECO Belleville is not the bicycle for you. If on the other hand you want a versatile bike that is as capable as riding to the store to get the groceries as it is riding casually on the beach boardwalk then you may want to consider the ECO Belleville bicycle from Trek.
Trek says the ECO Belleville is designed to be eco-friendly. Low impact materials are used to make the bicycle. The Belleville is also designed to easily be broken apart and recycled when the life-span of the bike is finished. Instead of littering up a landfill the bike could be easily recycled into another product. Trek is obviously targeting the hardcore greenies, but it is a good bike.
The internal 3 speed is very durable and easy to maintain. If putting around a flat town is your idea of fun then you may be happy with the ECO Belleville bike from Trek. If you are like most of us, then a 3 speed internal hub is not near enough gearing for you. For the price you can get a lot more bike that is more capable of handling the demands for daily use.
If the ECO Belleville is what you want, then go ahead and buy it. Don't buy it simply because of the green messages put out by Trek. If you truly want to be good to the environment than almost any bike will do. More bike riding equals less gas consumption. Less car fuel means less toxic greenhouse chemicals. The more people that ride bikes instead of driving cars will mean a healthier environment. If the ECO bike happens to be what you want go ahead and buy one, but you can also be very green and buy any other bicycle you want.
