Tweetie - Mac Twitter Client
Since switching to the Mac OS X computing platform, I have been searching for a decent Twitter client that will do what I want.
Unfortunately, the Mac OS has largely been forgotten by several of the major developers of Twitter clients.
I have been searching for a Twitter client that....
- Is a fully native Mac OS X application based on Cocoa or Carbon. Too many Twitter clients are based on Adobe's AIR (Adobe Integrated Runtime) framwork. The AIR platform has two major problems. It is inherently unstable, and applications programmed on it tend to have a very clunky feel to them - with a poor interface.
- Has a clean interface that doesn't have useless junk like so many clients do.
- Has the major features: direct messaging, @ replies, RT capability, searching trends, and the like.
Well, FINALLY, I think I may have found one. It's called Tweetie. Having started on the iPhone OS platform, Tweetie is the first Twitter client for the Mac OS X that I think I will actually use - and keep!
There is a free version which is ad supported (only a few ads really) and a paid version. The paid upgrade just removes the ads. It doesn't add any functionality that you don't get from the free version.

For the iPhone version, head to the App Store or read about Tweetie for iPhone here.
