A twin size electric blanket is a great addition to any bed. Not only will the electric heating elements keep you toasty during the cold winter months, but the comfortable fleece will compliment even the softest sheets during the warmer summer months, too.

Electric blankets come with variable temperature controls, so you can adjust the amount of heat that's right for you. Or, if you prefer, you can turn the control dial "off" and use it like a regular blanket.

As an added bonus, you can actually save money with an electric blanket, because you can turn your thermostat down at night without getting cold. And it typically costs much more to run a furnace at full capacity than it does to keep your electric blanket fired up.

The Best Twin Size Electric Blankets

Here are the best of the best when it comes to electric blankets for twin beds. They made this list because I've either had personal experience with them, or they've received overwhelmingly positive reviews from other customers.

You can find most of the blankets on this list at most home furnishing stores or department stores, but I personally prefer buying online through Amazon. They always seem to have lower prices and better selections than any online retailer or local store, and often run specials for free shipping. All of the twin electric blankets that made this list are available there, as are many others. Just use the 'search' function on the Amazon homepage and type: "Twin Size Electric Blankets" or "Electric Blankets Twin Size."

Sunbeam "Imperial Nights" Twin Electric Blanket.

Sunbeam Imperial Nights Electric BlanketDollar for dollar, this twin size Sunbeam electric blanket is probably the best value you'll find. It's soft, provides consistent heat and is durable enough to outlast most of your sheets. And for about $36 at Amazon (compared to nearly $80 everywhere else) you can't beat the price. You even have multiple color options: White, beige, seashell, red, or dark blue (pictured).

The Sunbeam Imperial Nights electric blanket is made from 90 percent polyester and 10 percent cotton, and even comes with an impressive 5 year warranty. Plus, the controller is lit just enough to let you see it in the dark for those late-night adjustments, but isn't so bright that it will keep you awake.

More than 50 customers have left feedback regarding this twin sized Sunbeam electric blanket over at Amazon, with an average rating of four stars (out of five).

Soft Heat Micro Fleece Twin Size Electric Blanket

Soft Heat Micro Fleece Electric BlanketCredit: Amazon.comIf you're looking for ultimate comfort and a reasonable price, I'd suggest the Soft Heat twin size electric blanket. Its micro-fleece fabric is super soft, and the heating wires are small enough that you won't feel them through the material. It's also machine washable, so you can throw it in your washing machine and tumble dryer without ruining it. You also have two color options: Blue and white (pictured).

This one also has a backlit controller that's easy to see at night, and automatically turns itself off after 10 hours to conserve power incase you accidentally left it on when you got out of bed.

It costs about $80 on Amazon (well over $100 anywhere else), so it's not the cheapest option, but you'll get much more for your money with this one that you will with cheaper brands.

More than 150 customers left feedback on the twin Soft Heat electric blanket, with an average rating of four starts (out of five) on Amazon.

Biddeford Knit Micro Plush Twin Size Electric Blankets

Biddeford Micro Push Electric BlanketCredit: Amazon.comThis knit micro plush twin electric blanket by Biddeford is kind of a dark horse, in that it's not a very familiar brand to most folks. Even Amazon only has one customer review (it's a five star!). The only reason I even know about it is because I was given one as a gift, and I have been extremely satisfied. At less than $60 on Amazon, it's a great choice - I wouldn't hesitate to replace mine for that price if something should happen to it.

The micro plush material is so soft that I often use it as a regular blanket, even without the "electric" portion, and it keeps me plenty warm without even turning it on. When I do use the electric heating elements, they warm my bed up very fast and don't leave any cold spots.

Like the others, it has a convenient light in the controller, so you can make adjustments without turning on the lights. And with 10 heat settings you're sure to find one that works best for you.

The Micro Plush Biddeford twin size electric blanket is machine washable, and comes with a 5 year warranty.
