Types of Bipolar Anger

By | Jul 22, 2010 | 2 Comments | Rating: 1

Bipolar anger is the most common emotion among people suffering from manic depression. In most cases it is usually what all emotions end up being displayed as in a person with bipolar disorder. Anger allows the person to convey his emotions to someone else. To a manic depressed person, anger allows them to relieve their tension. Blaming others for their shortcomings is a coping mechanism.

Bipolar anger is mainly aggravated by other symptoms of the disorder that have been pushed too far such as pessimism, guilt, irritability, self criticism, worry and anxiety. The disorder has extreme highs or lows and the mood can change without any warning. This is because any number of things could trigger the anger. Some victims of bipolar disorder use anger to cover up other emotions. People who have family members suffering from bipolar mood disorders are advised not to rationalize with an enraged person as they may turn violent. It is however recommended that they move away from that person and leave them to calm down on their own.

Anger is not considered a symptom of the illness; instead people with bipolar anger are characterized as being irritable. There are however, various levels of anger that one can watch out for which if constantly exhibited could be a sign of manic depression. First there is hyped-up anger. This is the pent up anger built up slowly by small frustrating events such as waiting in a queue. Then we have agitated anger. This is the kind where a person suffering from bipolar disorder has mixed episodes of extreme emotions or mood patterns that cause rage within them. The other type of bipolar anger is the impulsive anger that just happens spontaneously and could be triggered by anything. Cranky anger usually spirals from when things start going wrong such as waking up late which leads to spilling coffee on your top. It normally happens when things seem to happen out of the routine. Apprehension –driven anger stems from insecurities and worry of things not working out as planned.

Bipolar anger can be classified into many types depending on the mood that triggers the certain anger. There are other triggers that could cause bipolar disorder such as stress, substance abuse, medication, seasonal changes or sleep deprivation. All this can cause a level of bipolar disorder in a person and lack of understanding of events will most likely cause anger.
