Types of sewing machines

By | 1 Comments | Rating: 1 | |

Well stitched clothing has always been in demand for durability, comfort and style. Believe it or not, sewing machines have been around since the 1700's. One of the first recorded manual sewing machines was invented by Thomas Saint in 1790. The creation of this machine was actually brought about by the dramatic increase in the demand for clothing production during the industrial revolution.

There are actually only three types of sewing machines which dominate the global fabric industry around the globe. The types of sewing machines include mechanical sewing machines, electronic sewing machines, and modern computerized sewing machines.

The chain stitch and lock stitch sewing machines gained popularity in the early 1700's and are still patronized today. A good sewing machine is durable, cheap, and easy to repair. In fact, some of the classic models created and patented under the mechanical type of sewing machines still exist today.

Electronic sewing machines started to become popular in the 1900's. This type of sewing machine is more accurate and requires less effort to operate because they are equipped with an electronic motor. With electric machines, there are no wheels to spin and no knobs to adjust and dial. Just push a button and begin stitching.

Computerized sewing machines have better precision and control. They were developed in the late 1900's. This type of sewing machine was built with a computer that can accurately finish the job "programmed" into its memory. Memory cartridges are used to program the patterns. The great thing is that it's handy and efficient. All you have to do is download the pattern and start stitching.

If you are looking to buy a new sewing machine, then you need to consider what kind of features you are looking for. Typically, an electric sewing machine is going to sew much faster than a mechanical sewing machine. However, if you want to do quilting or decorative stitching then, you will want to get one of the computerized machines. The Brother CS6000i and the Brother ES2000 are nice computerized sewing machines to consider.
