What is A UV Toothbrush Cleaner?

As technology has progressed in the past few years, the UV sanitation phenomenon has grown rapidly in popularity due to it's simple and effective means of cleaning everything from water, air, food, and hygienic products like your toothbrush. Ultraviolet technology has been used for over 60 years in hospitals as an effective means of sterilizing the air and work space of highly susceptible patients, however it has not made it into the consumer arena until recently. While air duct UV air sanitizers have become easier than ever to install in a permanent fixed position, small and portable UV sterilizers such as UV toothbrush cleaners are now becoming extremely affordable and easy to find.

How UV Toothbrush Sanitizers Work:

Whereas many purification and sanitation systems work by physically removing the contaminants that are effecting your health or well being, UV sanitation works a little differently. Rather than try to remove and dispose of harmful bacteria and viruses, UV toothbrush cleaners work by destroying harmful contaminates at a cellular level. The short wavelength of germicidal ultraviolet light destroys the nucleic acids of harmful bacteria, altering their DNA makeup rendering them useless.

Compared to other sanitizers which up until recently used a dry heat to kill germs, UV toothbrush cleaners are much faster and more convenient. Other toothbrush cleaners may take up to 45 minutes to complete disinfect, and often times would dry out your bristles in the process of sanitation. UV toothbrush cleaners take no longer than 10 minutes to kill 99% of bacteria and germs and DO NOT alter the physical makeup of your toothbrush. Rather than shorten the lifespan of your toothbrush like dry heat sterilizers, germicidal ultraviolet technology actually extends the life of your brush.

Types of UV Toothbrush Cleaners:

iTouchless UV Toothbrush Sanitizer - Holding 4 toothbrushes and killing 99% of germs, fungi, and bacteria within 7 minutes, the iTouchless UV toothbrush cleaner makes a great addition to any bathroom. The lamp is estimated to last up to 6 years being used twice a day, so the maintenance required is limited to changing the AA batteries every few months.

Violight VIO200 Travel Toothbrush Sanitizer - One of the highest quality, and most popular ultraviolet sanitizers are made by Violight. Their VIO200 travel toothbrush cleaner is easy to use, killing 99% percent of germs and viruses (including H1N1 flu virus) in 7 minutes. It features an automatic off switch, so all you have to do is put in in the case and press the start button. It will be clean and ready for use when you return later in the day. It also doubles as a durable protective travel case.

Sunbeam UV Personal Toothbrush Sanitizer - Using similar technology to the Violight sanitizer, the Sunbeam UV toothbrush cleaner requires up to 17 minutes to kill the same germs that others take 7. It is still effective however this increased time reduces battery life. It is 2 ounces lighter however, and uses AAA batteries instead of AA.
