It is never fun when you have to unclog your drains.  It can be tricky, tiring, and possibly expensive.  Thankfully for you, it is possible to unclog your drains with baking soda, along with common types of vinegar.  This method will work whether you are unclogging your sink or shower drains, and with the main ingredient being baking soda, this is an inexpensive, safe method where you probably already have all the ingredients you will need.  Once you get this method down pat, you will be able to unclog your drains in a safe, inexpensive way: using baking soda.

Step 1: Grab Your Ingredients

In order to unclog your drains, you will need baking soda (Arm and Hammer will work perfectly), white vinegar, and some hot water preferably boiled from the kettle.  These will be your main tools for unclogging your drains, with baking soda being the key ingredient.

Step 2: Unclog Your Drains with Baking Soda!

Now to the fun part: unclogging your drains!  Take a half a cup of baking soda and pour it down the congested drain.  Follow up the baking soda with some white vinegar (Watch out! You will get some volcanic like effects, but that’s all part of the plan).  Let the mixture continue to bubble for a few seconds.  After that, take your hot water and pour it down the clogged drain, and up with the baking soda and white vinegar will come all of the yucky stuff that had been stuck down there.

This method for unclogging your drains with baking soda will work on many types of things that cause clogged drains, namely hair and other small things that build up over time.  If this method does not work, then you will probably have to call a local plumber to come and do the job.

Not only is this a good way to unclog your drains, but it is a good way to prevent your drains from clogging in the first place as well, using the same ingredients.  If you anticipate having problems with having to unclog your drains in the future, you will not have to face this problem if you have some baking soda on hand.  Simply carry out the two steps listed above, and the chemicals will make sure all of the gunk cluttering up your sink or bathroom is flushed out, which will make prevent there from being a build up of gunk.

If you ever have to unclog your drains remember in most cases you can do it with Arm and Hammer baking soda!  Make sure you also have some white vinegar and hot water on hand.  If this method does not work, you have a bigger problem and need to call a plumber as soon as possible.
