By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

As a dog owner I love my dogs and I couldn't think of getting rid of them for any reason whatsoever. But there are some people who are allergic to dogs. They can have flu like symptoms, or can come up in a rash of other skin complaint. So what do you do if you are allergic to a dog?

Don't panic! A lot of people who discover that they are having an dog allergy is think of the first thing that comes into their minds which is to get rid of the dog. You shouldn't do this. There are many things you can do to solve the problem without getting rid of the animal. Have a talk with your veterinarian and discuss with her the possibilities that are available to you for your particular breed of dog. If you haven't already got a dog you might consider one of the many hypoallergenic breeds.

The first thing that you should do is to wash and shampoo the dog with a special dog shampoo once a twice a week depending on how you are feeling. This will help to remove any elements in the dogs are that are likely to become airborne or attach themselves to your furniture. Another thing is never to let the dog near the bedroom. Some people have a big problem with this. I know of friends who would allow their dogs to get in between a them as they sleep at night. This is not healthy and shouldn't be allowed, not only from a physical point of view but also from the dog's psychological point of view.

If you have a dog allergy you shouldn't allow the dog to lick your face. This is at least until you can find out whether you are allergic to the dog saliva. If you find that this is the case you should wear rubber gloves when you are handling any of the dogs toys. On the other hand you might find that your canine is suffering from dog allergies that are related to you. There are many products around the house that can affect your dog, and you may be feeding your dog with ingredients that are giving him an allergic reaction. It can work both ways.
