Unique Wedding Cake Alternatives
When I say 'wedding cake' a particular image comes to mind: a large tower of cake and icing, elaborately decorated and with two little wax people on top. Am I right? It's been the same for decades. But in all corners of the country things are changing. Couples wanting a wedding to remember are throwing tradition to the wind and looking for more interesting, even outrageous alternatives.
One simple, whimsical alternative to a wedding cake is to display a number of cupcakes in tiers. The cupcakes can be decorated to look like miniature wedding cakes or with stylish monograms. Either way, this is sure to make an impact.
If you view that as being odd, some couples have come up with even more outrageous ideas than that. Just for giggles, some couples have opted to serve their favorite snack cakes at their wedding receptions. Guests are treated to huge piles of fun treats such as Twinkies or Ho Ho's. Creating displays from these is a cinch and large numbers of snack cakes will look impressive, pleasing guests with a gluttonous feast.
Cookies could stand in for wedding cakes too. They could be served on mass in the same way as snack cakes, or placed on display like cupcakes. For the traditional cake cutting ceremony, why not have a giant cookie made and decorated for the occasion. Many cookie stores or bakeries would be willing to do this for you.
Another option is to serve your guests pie. Apple pie, lemon pie, cherry pie, the options are endless. This dramatic move will certainly get your guests talking and they're sure to remember your wedding for years to come.
Finally, providing a candy buffet is an alternative that guests will literally adore you for. These types of buffets can vary from wedding to wedding. One couple might decide to display large glass jars with a different types of candy in each jar, in an old-fashioned candy shop arrangement. Another couple might build centerpieces with candy and arrange them on each table at the reception. The only limit in designing a candy buffet is your imagination, and the size of your wallet of course.
Although wedding cakes have been the preferred dessert at weddings for years, that doesn't mean that they are your only option. Offering an alternative dessert is a fun way to express yourself and to make your wedding day even more special than it already is. Sharing your favorite desert or treat with your guests will make the occasion thoroughly unique. After all, shouldn't you make an impact and start your married life with a bang, and not rely on some worn out traditional wedding cake?
