Who is the Labrat?
"A laboratory rat is a rat of the species Rattus norvegicus which is bred and kept for scientific research. Laboratory rats have served as an important animal model for research in psychology, medicine, and other fields."
(wikipedia, 9 November 2011, <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laboratory_rat>)
The term may also refer to an individual who prefers to spend most of their free time in the laboratory whether they have work to do there or not.
I would be the latter type :)
After working for many years in the field of power generation, I hope to write a few articles to teach some of what I learned along the way as well as some of the important things I learned in school and did not think they were important. Among my interests are power generation, psychology, steam and internal combustion engines as well as electric motors.

The Theory of Learned Helplessness

I've always been fascinated by the theory of learned helplessness. We sometimes hear the term 'learned helplessness' being used in the media or in everyday conversation. It is often presented as a condition that has neither treatment nor cure. Victims view themselves as 'fated' to their circumstances. They see their lives as being a one long streak of bad luck. In this article we will examine the theory of learned helplessness and how it can affect us.
