Self harm, also known as self injury, self mutilation, cutting yourself and self-inflicted violence, is more common than you may think. Self harm affects the commoner to celebrities. Unfortunately, individuals engaging in self mutilation are often judged or scrutinized for their actions. Self injury acts as a coping mechanism to deal with life stressors. Cutting or harming one's self is not an attempt to commit suicide; however, it is a subconscious cry for help.
