Born and raised in Southern California, as much as I love to travel, I love coming home even more.  A devout humanist, I believe we are here to teach, amaze, enrich and care for one another.

Home Recording Guru - Editing, Mixing, and Mastering Your Project

Final article in a three part series detailing the process of editing, mixing and mastering music in a home studio in order to prepare it for marketing and distribution. Here we discuss making sure the arrangement is correct by properly editing the piece. Also it is essential to balance the volume, equalization and stereo placement of each component to ensure that all instruments are heard clearly and as the artist intended. This is a process of heavy trial and error but well worth the effort when it is done correctly.

Home Recording Guru - The Recording Process

Part 2 of a 3 part series about the home recording process. In part one I outlined the basic gear needed for producing music at home. In this second article we discuss the process of recording. What kind of signals we strive to capture on tape or disk. How we use the different kinds of microphones in our mic closet. What happens along each stage of the signal chain and how to care for the signal as it travels from the musical instrument and through the gear. I also discuss what to watch out for so your signals don't get damaged on their way to being recorded.
