Today, 11-Jan-2011, is my first day here at Info Barrel.  I am looking forward to being part of this community and will appreciate & reciprocate any help that comes my way.   First up I will admit to never writing on-line before & do not have a clue about a lot of things that are noted just in this sign up stage.
The bulk of my working life, which started at 15 years old,  has consisted of  bookkeeping & office managerial duties with sprinklings of  go-to-advice for the younger generations I encountered whilst living & working in the French Quarter of New Orleans for well over 13 years.   8 years before that were spent in Baton Rouge, LA which, in it's own right, has great Blues Clubs & Musicians.  Three, for sure, in the mid '80's.
Now, (at 52 where DID it go?) I have decided to explore my artistic side &  hope not to fall "flat on my face."  I speak figuratively because literally (and I know this from experience)  BEAU COUP PAIN usually follows!
My greatest achievement in this life has been raising my only child. He is a SGT in the ARMY with a bit over 11 years under his belt and has just returned from a 4th tour of duty in Iraq.  I have a wonderful daughter-in-law and three fantastic grandchildren.
Hobbies include music, photography, reading, walking, yoga & much to my chagrin "late for everything".  Not fashionably late or  intentionally late - just late.  I would hate to think I have a tad of passive-agressive behavior going on but there it is.  Is being late for everything a hobby?  Think not. Hum.
My latest endeavor, since surviving Hurricane Katrina & leaving NOLA a year later, is acquiring the oldest house I could possibly stumble across in Washington, LA (circa 1820) a year & half ago & have since been "fixing it up"  to live in.   That is a story unto itself.
I hope everyone enjoys my introduction and I wish everyone a Happy & Prosperous 2011!
Peace y'all,
Please read, comment, critique, and enjoy my work listed below.

The Bad Seed

Like everyone else, I have followed the Casey Anthony trial. For those who are unconscious or just don't care, this is the case of the Orlando, Florida woman who is on trial for murdering her child in year 2008. Caylee Anthony was 2 and a half years old - 3 years ago when...

The Tag

"I am guilty as sin," I say to myself, sitting on my porch steps, in  full panic mode. "How GUILTY is SIN"?, Miss Smarty Pants asks. "That is ONE stupid question," I silently shriek - Death Row flashing through my mind. My Mama is probably spinning in her grave!! ("yes, Smarty Pants,  people...

Transcendental Meditation

Truths known to the heart rather than the mind. I do not remember how or where I came across these words but they have lingered in the back of my mind since the mid 1970's. I love the sound of these words still. I decided to learn....

Is Music Essential to Our Souls?

In every culture a mother coos a lullaby to her babies. This is her way of communicating to her child in a non-verbal way. To sooth and reassure her child that all is right in the world and they are free to relax and sleep. Is this why...

How to Naturally Lose 15 Pounds in 6 Months

Do you know what the chemical compound C12H220 is?  It is strange white crystals that are completely alien to the human system that is ingested daily by millions of people but has no nutritional value whatsoever. It is sugar.  It does not matter if it white "table sugar"...

Tip Your Hat to Mrs. Mary Dixon Kies

It was the 5th of May in 1809, during the War of 1812, as the United States was in the clutches of an economic grip due to an embargo on goods being imported from Europe that a historic event occurred. For the first time in history a U.S. Patent was issued to a Woman!

Vessel Sink Make Your Own

For several years I have been restoring an antique home in the Deep South of Louisiana, USA.       Just that one sentence conjures up emotions such as: Shock! Panic! Awe! Always wanted to do that! Could I? I wish! Oh, the money! Are you crazy? Inspiration!  How DID you do that! Wow, that is...

The Other Side of Day

Do the ghosts, goblins, and spirits come out to play and haunt? Does the Sun take a break - while it takes a break from us - still doing its job?  Does the Moon rise to her cusp and begin descent with weary longitude or does she notice her importance with poignant essence and a jaunty nod to the Man In...

The Last Place I Will Ever Live

I am having a hard time finding a place to categorize this article which, at this point, is only a title with this one sentence. It may well end up in philosophical concepts because I am just musing about my life or the last third of it, as I see it. ...
