Several years of not knowing what I wanted to be when I grew up, and after changing my major at college multiple times, has left me with a wide base of knowledge and a desire to be constantly learning new things. When I entered college, it was to become a history teacher. Along the way, I also studied psychology, criminal justice, and writing, before finally returning to my goal of becoming a teacher, this time as an elementary school teacher.
While attending college, I spent my nights and weekends working as a professional chef in a busy local restaurant. (another career consideration at one point). I gladly spent hours pouring over cookbooks: learning new techniques, trying out new recipes, and improving old ones. Even though I have since left the food business, I still spend a lot of time in my own kitchen, preparing fun and healthy meals for my own family.
There are three things that have stayed constant through all of my career goals and college years. The first thing is my love of learning new things. I am always looking for something new to learn. When I come across something that interests me, I go out of my way to learn as much as I can about it. The second thing is the enjoyment I get out of helping others to learn new things. I love to take complicated ideas and break them down in a way that makes them more accessible. Writing professionally has given me the opportunity to teach thousands of people all about the topics that interest me. The final constant is my love of the written word. I spend most of my days reading, and then writing, about fascinating new topics. I have been a professional writer since 2008, and I have written for several websites in that time, as well as successfully starting and building up several blogs.
My topics of specialty currently include parenting, marital relationship, food, health, and freelance writing. For more information about me and my writing, please visit my blogs, Writer at Home or Writer Mom at Home.
