I worked for 28 years in the construction and maintenance industry but maintained a curiosity about almost everything throughout that time.  I was largely self educated (except for one failed attempt at college in the 1970's) until 2013 when I achieved a BS in psychology from University of Maryland University College.  At age 47 I made a career change, first to community organizing, and then to working with the homeless in Southeast Washington DC as a job and life skills instructor.  In 2012 I became interested in addiction treatment and I have been working as a substance abuse counselor ever since.  In my work I get to see two of the greatest human atributes in action, the ability to learn and to choose positive change.
