Montana Day Hikes: Mystic Lake

Mystic Lake is one of the most popular day hikes in south central Montana. At 7,600 ft, it is a natural lake on West Rosebud Creek that has been transformed by a hydroelectric project. It was enlarged by a concrete dam and water is carried down the mountain to a powerhouse that produces enough energy to power 7,000 homes. The hike is a moderately difficult 6 miles round trip. The view of the lake makes it worth the trip.
