Many of the claims rely on erroneous documents, incomplete records and generic testimony from witnesses. Debtor's being harassed by debt collection firms can turn this to their advantage and stop or delay collection procedures and even get debt claims removed from their credit reports using the substantial protections afforded them under the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act. As a practical matter often the debt collection is unable to comply or unwilling to go through the expense so the claims and the bad credit reporting can be stopped as a practical matter whether or not money is actually owed or not.
