Income Tax Preparation

Income tax return preparation is a complicated process that we all have to deal with year in and year out. As the tax law continually changes it takes a professional most of the time to interpret and report taxes correctly especially for complicated returns. Frankly many returns which are not particularly complicated are still out of the grasp of the common person as demonstrated by the vast amount of time some people devote to preparing their taxes. Tax planning and forecasting is challenge that some people never even attempt despite the fact that under paying taxes could carry penalties and over paying taxes could be wasteful for the tax payer. Getting guidance from a qualified and experienced CPA might be worth the money if only for the piece of mind and the time savings.

Using A CPA

What makes using a CPA as your tax preparer a great option is that they are professionals in this specific field and can devote their entire careers to tax preparation. They know how to evaluate a tax payer's situation, especially in the case of repeat customers, and they can usually help advise in tax planning and preparation. If they feel you will owe more or less taxes they can safely advise you to change your income tax withholding status. If they feel you can lower you tax bill by doing specific actions they can advise these actions on a personalized basis. This expertise alone can sometimes make the cost of using a professional tax preparer or CPA worth it.

CPAs in particular are also a safe bet for income tax return preparation because they are required to undergo CPA continuing education requirements throughout their career. Many of them even hold a CFP certificate and can even help you improve your financial education as you work with them. Their educational requirements ensure that they are basing their practice and advice on current tax law, financial products, and concepts. Because they are professionals in their fields they typically know more tax implication nuance than the average tax payer and they stay abreast of changes to the tax code as they occur such as the new rules of HSA health saving accounts compared to flexible spending accounts, whereas common tax payers typically do not.

Income tax return preparation is a serious task that we all have to participate in annually. It is well regulated and has deep implications on personal finances. If there is any area of your life where professional guidance and assistance is warranted this might be the place and time. Sure it's very possible to prepare your taxes yourself but unless you have deep experience you may find the process to be confusing, time consuming, and you may get things wrong or miss deductions or credits. Using a CPA for income tax return preparation can usually alleviate these problems and should be considered a highly viable option for everyone.

The more complicated a tax return the better reason you have to use a CPA.
