Can GPS Technology offer Peace of Mind to Today's Busy Parent?
Using GPS Tracking and Child Locators to Monitor Your Child´s Location
If you are an American family chances are that you live in a household in which both you and your spouse are working in order to keep up with the ever accelerated pace of life that we enjoy here in the United States. It is also likely that you have children, and if so, you already understand quite well how challenging it can be to keep up with them, and even more so if you have younger children in school and both you and your spouse are working full time. Today, a high percentage of families are working an 8 to 10+ hour day and find that when it comes to caring for the safety of their younger children that may be leaving school as early as Noon if they are in Kindergarten, they have very few options. A great majority of the younger students find themselves taking a bus in order to go to some extracurricular afterschool activity, the YMCA, or often to the home of a grandparent or other family member to be looked after until a parent gets off work and can pick them up in the evening. But what if your child never made it safely from point A to point B?
Every year there are hundreds of thousands of children reported missing in the United States. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children:
- Most of these are cases of Run-Away followed by those in which one of the parents decides to take the child without the knowledge or permission of the other parent.
- Some 60,000 are kidnapped by strangers, with over 90% being returned, often quite quickly, but only after being victims of some sexual abuse.
Losing a child is the worst nightmare that any parent could imagine. Maybe it is something as simple as your child just got on the wrong bus or perhaps just got off at the wrong stop and everything will eventually work out fine. But as a parent you want to know that your child is safe and if he or she is lost you want to be there for them right away. You already know that GPS can help you find that obscure address in the part of the city you are not familiar with, but don’t forget what the acronym stands for: GPS Global Positioning System. Which means in today’s world with today’s technology you can know exactly where your child is, anywhere on the Globe, thereby greatly reducing the risk that you as a parent will have to live the nightmare of losing your child.
By some estimates, almost 50% of children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old already have a cell phone. For many parents one of the simplest and most cost effective solutions is to make sure that the phone their child has is equipped with an integrated GPS tracking system and purchase one of the satellite location services that many of today’s mobile phone companies offer. There are other child locator products on the market as well that have GPS tracking systems built into them such as:
- Wrist watches
- Small devices that clip onto or simply ride along in your child’s backpack
GPS tracking technology can be an option for any parent that wants to know where their child is in today’s busy world, offering them peace of mind, and there is no question that they can be an effective and valuable tool. But it is important to remember that they are just a tool and cannot totally replace the watchful eye of a loving parent or other caretaker. Be sure to talk to your child about safety, have a plan, and educate them so that when they must, they can wisely and alertly travel their way safely from point A to point B.
