Using Social Media To Improve Your Business

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 1 0

Social media has revolutionized the way we do business. Now it is the norm for companies to have social media campaigns on sites like Facebook,Twitter and LinkedIn. Facebook pages have helped grow many businesses and Twitter accounts have helped spread brand awareness. If you own a company and have not started using social media, than you are missing out on an amazing opportunity to grow your business. In this article, I will show you how to use social media to improve your business.

Creating a Facebook page is one of the first steps you must take in order to create awareness for your business. Facebook pages are very easy to make. In less than 10 minutes you can have a well designed page dedicated to your business. This is the first step. The next thing you will need to do is to promote it. Using Advertising and guerilla marketing you can push your page out. The hands off approach would be to start an ad campaign and send traffic to your page. The hands on approach would be to just start targeting and talking to people. It is very labor intensive but the work can really pay off. Social media marketing is a full time job, that is not done easily.

Twitter is in my opinion an easier platform to work with than Facebook. On Twitter it is easy to attract followers. My simple strategy is to follow a bunch of people at the beginning of each week and flush the people who did not follow me back at the end of the week. Let me explain this in greater detail.

Follow And Flush Method

This is the most common form of Twitter marketing. It is very simple and not time consuming. The concept is that most people will look into people who follow them, so if you follow someone they will

  1. look at your profile
  2. potentially follow you back

This is awesome because no matter what your business is gaining exposure. When you follow someone you are almost guaranteed to have them look at your profile. This means a potential sale! Further more most people will return your follow with a follow. It is very common and can greatly help expand your reach.

Be carefull not to be too aggressive in your approach though. Twitter bans users who aggressively follow other people. It is important to not overdue yourself and follow thousands of people. I limit myself to 200 follows a week. This ensures a steady flow of visitors to my site.

Recently I discovered a new way to beef up my Twitter page, it is called TraffUp.  On TraffUp you can purchase followers and Retweets. The site works on a point system. You get points if you

  1. visit a website
  2. follow a person
  3. Retweet a persons tweet

So as a member you can earn points these ways and spend them. I usually follow a bunch of people and then use the points to pay for people to retweet my posts. This is how I am able to get 50+ retweets on posts for no cash. It is really simple to implement and can be fun. All you have to do is spend a few minutes on the site and you can have enough points to do a lot of cool stuff!

Social media does wonders to a businesses brand. The more your customer sees your brand the better. You need to praise the customer, give shout outs, show that you are not just some company. This is what companies like Coca Cola aim to do on social networks. They show that they are not just a multi national corporation, but in fact that they are family. That they care about each and every consumer.
