Using Target's After Christmas Sales to Save Money on Groceries
If saving money is something you need to do to make ends meet, then using Target's after Christmas sales to save money on groceries is another strategy you need to use in your quest to keep more money in your pocket.
Many people believe that after Christmas sales are only for saving money on Christmas related items like garland, ornaments, wrapping paper and perhaps the occasional toy. While many stores do have sales on December twenty-sixth, Target's after Christmas sales are, in my opinion, the best for saving money on groceries.
In fact, it's not just Target's after Christmas sales that will save you money on groceries. You can use this strategy to get deeply discounted items on other major holidays, like Halloween, Easter and the Fourth of July.
In order to save money on groceries at Target after Christmas, you need to be organized. Have all of your coupons clipped and in your file box ready to be used. You will also have to set your alarm very early to take advantage of what is left on Target's shelves on December 26th. The early bird gets the bargain, and a cart full if you can get there first.
Another thing you need to know about shopping for groceries at Target's after Christmas sales is the layout of the store. A few days before Christmas, go to Target and see where they keep the Christmas grocery items. Some will keep them up front, others inthe back. Also, cruise the other food, plastic and paper aisles to see if there are any with Christmas or winter designs. By knowing where the items are located, you will not waste precious time looking while others are filling up their carts with discounted food and grocery items.
So what will you find at Target's after Christmas sale that will save you money on groceries? The things that I have found for fifty per cent off year after year are:
Name Brand Chocolate
Hershey, Nestle, and Mars brands are all available and half-price at Target's after Christmas sale, and the savings are greater if you have coupons. Disregard the colors on the wrappers. If you are using them for baking, it will not matter. If you want to sort them into colors-silver for New Year's, red for Valentine's Day and green for Saint Patrick's Day, then go ahead.
Boxed cake mixes and ready to spread frosting
Many have sprinkles you can add after baking, so just do not use them if you do not want to use red and green.
Muffin liners
Target has Christmas and winter scenes, so you can bake muffins and cupcakes all winter.
Paper goods and plastic wear
Another great bargain that will save you money on groceries at Target's after Christmas sales are paper goods. If you do not care that your paper plates, napkins and paper towels have red and green running through it or snowmen and snowflakes, then here is a great bargain for you. Plastic wear comes in a variety of colors. Tissues have holiday designs on the boxes-who cares when they are half-price or better?
Cookies and crackers
During the holiday season, Keebler and Nabisco come out with cookies and crackers in winter shapes and colors. I think you will find that they taste even better at half-price with a coupon!
Gift sets
Break apart the gift set and you will have gourmet coffees, teas, nuts, beef logs, cheese, and other goodies that come in these boxed sets.
Other items I have found at Target's after Christmas or other holiday sales that saved me money on groceries are:
Detergent
One year I found boxes of Cascade dishwasher tabs at half-price because they were in a red and green container. I have also found Palmolive dish detergent and Lysol wipes in the same aisle, all discounted because of the container they came in.
Snacks
Bags of Lays and Cheetos have been found at Target's after Halloween sales.
Overall, I have found using Target’s after Christmas sales to save
