Using a PVC Pond Liner Repair Kit

By | Jun 7, 2011 | 1 Comments | Rating: 1

A PVC pond liner repair kit has everything that you need to repair a leaking pond with a flexible liner. Whether the hole is caused from a rock underneath it, from something falling in, or from general wear and tear, you will be able to have your pond back in five simple steps. A PVC pond liner repair kit should include a PVC pond liner patch and some glue. It is also a good idea to read through the instructions that come with the kit. However, most of the time this is what you need to do to get the job done right.
  1. Locate the leak. This is actually one of the harder parts of the process. You need to let it drain or watch how the water is leaving the pond. Once you have located the leak you should mark it with a piece of chalk so that you won't lose it in the process of getting ready to fix it. If the water level is below half the volume of the pond then you should remove your fish and any plants that will be in the way.
  2. Clean the area around the leak. You will want to make sure that you get any scum, algae, or other yuckies off the side of the pond around the leak. Give yourself plenty of clearance when cleaning, don't use chemicals, and if you need a little boost in power you can add salt to get the liner clean. Then you will want to make sure that the liner is very dry. It is best to use a blow dryer to carefully dry it. Touch the liner often to make sure that it is not getting hot.
  3. Cut the patch. You will want to cut the patch into a circle or oval shape. You will want to make sure that there aren't any sharp edges that may peel up. You will also want to make sure that it is at least four inches wider than the patch so that there is at least a two-inch clearance on either side of the leak. This space will give the patch plenty of room to hold really well to the liner.
  4. Add the glue. Pond liner glue needs to be added to both the patch and the liner. You will need to let it dry. This could take at least eight minutes to dry. The glue shouldn't be tacky once it is dry. Then press the patch to the area of the liner that needs to be repaired and has the glue on it. Make sure you press out any wrinkles or bubbles.
  5. Allow it to cure. It often takes 24 hours to cure. You will want to make sure that you don't add water before this time is up. Once the pond has finished curing you can add water and replace your fish if you removed them during the process.
Fixing your pond with a PVC pond liner repair kit is really easy. You only need to follow these simple five steps. You can have your pond back and it will be just as beautiful as ever.
