Using a Submersible Well Pump To Its Full Advantage
Whether it be to supply water to your new country home or water the crops in the field, a submersible water pump will be necessary to get the water out of the well. You do not want to carry buckets back and forth as in the pioneer days. A good pump, well maintained, will last a very long time.
Submersible well pumps have a distinct advantage over the shallow well pump installed above ground. They push the water up rather than pull it, this makes for a much steadier pressure and much less wear and tear on the pump itself. A definite plus when it comes to showering or filling those much needed water troughs in a hurry.
The average submersible pump moves about 400 gallons of water per minute. This is a standard volume whereas there are other pumps that move much more. These are used mainly for large irrigation areas and pumping long distances or through much larger supply lines.
The deeper the well, the more powerful of a pump you will need. A deep well pump is designed to move much more water than the standard ones and is constructed to withstand being covered by water for very long periods of time. Completely sealed, these pumps will run for years if properly maintained.
Submersible well pumps operate from an above ground control box. This not only lets you turn it on or off, but you can control the amount of water pumped. This saves on both water usage and electricity.
The ability to control a submersible well pump in this fashion lets you be in charge. If the supply is low in the well, you can take just what you need, without any waste. Once the water supply has replenished itself, longer run times can be achieved.
