If you're just a curious traveler who wants to see New York City on a budget, it can be done. You can still enjoy all that it has to offer by taking and making a little extra effort here and there.

Planning to go to New York City on a budget can be done by searching and booking in advance for some cheap hostels. There are some beds which you can pay for as low as $12 per night although review ratings border only on the passing mark. You can find some that may cost you around $19 per night but it comes with several amenities like free use of computer and printer, free long distance calls anywhere in the US, there's a Cable TV, a refrigerator, microwave and security lockers. These rooms have better ratings since beds, linens and towels are clean.

You can find one that's near downtown New York near the bus terminal and subway and about two blocks from Times Square and only a few block from Madison Square Garden. You won't be spending much for bus or subway fares which is one way to get around in New York City on a budget. It can be done by staying in a decent hostel. From there you can fill some bottles with potable drinking water so you won't have to buy. On your way back to the hostel, don't forget to buy some microwaveable meal sand some instant coffee which you can have for dinner and breakfast the next day.


Eating out in New York City on a budget, can be done and will depend on your appetite. New Yorkers are sometimes too busy to have a serious lunch out so they simply stuff themselves up with hotdog sandwiches during lunchtime .You can go to 7th Avenue and be among the crowd that patronizes the delis all lined-up doing brisk business. If you're visiting and would like to see Chinatown, Little Italy and Greenwich Village, you can find some reasonably priced and pleasant tasting meals with a $10 budget. Another way to eat in New York City on a budget can be done by including your lunch in the meals you prepared at the hostel then have a picnic on a Central Park bench or on one of its grassy areas.

Sightseeing in New York City

One way to see some of the museums and zoos in New York City on a budget can be done by getting a three to seven day pass which will entitle you to free admissions to a lot of many city attractions. It may seem a bit expensive but it entails greater savings rather than paying for admission fees between $12 to $15 per museum or zoo. You can't go wrong with this; since New York City on a budget can be done by using your pass to so many museums and zoos. If you want to see some attractions for free you can board a ferry for Staten Island and then see the Statue of Liberty up close.

Now here's another tip on how to visit other places in New York City on a budget. It can be done by joining some free walking tours. These tours are usually available during weekends and lasts about one hour and a half. If you want to do some shopping in New York City on a budget, it can be done by visiting the outlets that sell trendy styles and designer clothes with prices slashed off by as much as 60%or at cost less than a hundred dollars. The only downside to these outlets is that the fitting rooms are quite small and you will have to fall in line before you can have your turn. The places are literally teeming with bargain hunters. What you should do is to maximize the limit of clothes you are allowed to bring in for fitting and make sure they are your final choices, so you won't have to fall in line again. Examples of these outlets are Find Outlet, Loft Works, Gabay's Outlet, Century 21 and Beacon's Closet.

There now, you know that visiting New York City on a budget can be done by being a little less like the conventional tourist. Eat, sleep and be merry the way some hard-working New Yorkers do and you can have the most satisfying tour of New York City.
