Vacuum Sealer Savings

By | Mar 25, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0
Ever more conscious of budgets, household decision makers are beginning to reexamine previously overlooked food expenditures. Junk food wish lists are given an once-over, and fast food tallies are kept with religious zeal. Along these same lines, grocery shopping has become much more calculated; gone are the days of kids throwing whatever they like into the cart. Instead, mother more often than not choose to shop at discount stores, buying in bulk, and picking up boxes of cereal that their smallest children would do well to lift. But all this scrimping is for nothing if the food simply sits in the fridge and transforms itself into an inedible pile of mould. So, to prevent this, and to make the most out of shopping efforts at saving, one might be wise to invest in a vacuum sealer system.

Vacuum sealer bags suck all the air from around a food item, anything from meat to cheese to broccoli. By creating airtight, or vacuum-sealed, compartments, these bags keep food fresh for much longer. They can then be placed in the freezer to extend food life even further while combating freezer burn. By separating bulk item into reasonable sizes, diving them into several sealed bags, and storing them away, families can cut down on waste and lost money. And purchasing a system doesn't have to be a painful experience for the budget. The Deni 1331 Freshlock, for example, is not much over twenty dollar, and it can seal and also reseal bags. Around the same price range is the Toastess TBS21which has similar features and is a good, all-purpose sealer. For about twice as much, one can purchase the Rival VS125-S Seal-a-Meal Cord/Cordless Rechargeable model, which adds the convenience of a cordless sealer.

One of the most well known brands in vacuum sealing is undoubtedly Foodsaver; models of this brand begin around two hundred dollars (the FoodSaver V3835 Vacuum Food Sealer Kit sells for $189) and go up to five hundred (the FoodSaver® V2480 selling for $499). With re-sealable bags and an extended warranty, these models may be the best bargain even if they are more expensive. When investing, remember to calculate for replacement vacuum seal bags. Some are a little expensive, but others are economical; and if the brand a person selects markets ridiculously expensive accessories, there are even universal bags for sale or vacuum sealer rolls. These bags come in a great variety of sizes, from tiny snack bags to fully-grown gallon bags for serious food storage. So if one is trying to squeeze a few more pennies out of the food budget, a vacuum sealer system is the way to go. Write the vacuum date on the bag, and be sure to use items; though the storage time is extended, even vacuum sealing won't make that steak last for three years!
