Valentine's Day is a holiday that is traditionally for lovers, but that isn't a good reason to leave children out of the fun. Engage the children in your life this Valentines Day with fun age-appropriate crafts to give as gifts or just for fun. Use these craft projects at home, daycare, your child's school, or for a fun Valentine's party.
For this craft, you will need plastic wrap, thin ribbon, and small, hard candies. Cut a long 36 inch strip of plastic wrap, four inches thick. Place a line of candies along one side of the plastic. Roll the candies up in the plastic. Tie a small piece of ribbon between each piece of candy. Tie the ends of the candy string together to make a long necklace.
For this craft, you will need flour, salt, cream of tarter, vegetable oil, food coloring, rolling pin, and heart shaped cookie cutters. Mix 3 cups of flour, 1 1/2 cups of salt and 1 1/2 teaspoons of cream of tarter in a saucepan. Add 6 tablespoons of vegetable oil and 3 1/4 cups of water to the mixture. Add red food coloring to the mix until it is the color that you want. You can also make other colors if desired. Heat the mixture for 5 to 10 minutes, until it starts to get too stiff to stir. Allow the mixture to cool until you can knead it with your hands. Knead the mixture until soft and smooth. Roll out the clay to a thickness of about 1 inch. Use the cookie cutters to cut out shapes from the clay. Wrap each shape in a small, plastic bag and tie with a ribbon.
For this craft, you will need craft foam, colored permanent markers, scissors and pipe cleaners. Make several small hearts about 1 inch in diameter from the craft foam. Cut out the hearts. Write a message on the heart with permanent marker. Poke a small hole in the bottom of the heart. Feed 1 inch of a 12 inch piece of pipe cleaner through the heart. Fold the end of the pipe cleaner down the back of the heart and twist it around the other half. Twist the pipe cleaner around the top of a pencil to make a springy pencil topper.
For this craft, you will need paper, scissors, yard and a glue stick. Cut out about 25 hearts each in white, red, pink and purple. Make each heart about 3 inches across. Cut long strips of yarn about 7 feet long. Glue 2 hearts together with the yarn string between the two halves of the heart. Glue about 5 or 6 heart pairs onto each yarn string. Hang the finished strings from an open doorway to make a fun heart curtain.
