Visiting Bora Bora

By 0 0

Bora Bora an island surrounded by a breathtaking lagoon and a barrier reef, and at its center, an extinct volcano rises like a castle with its two peaks - Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu is easily recognized as the crown jewel of the French Polynesia.

Although it may seem like it is worlds away, Bora Bora is fairly easy to reach. It lies northwest from Tahiti and there are frequent flights from Papeete, which is less than an hour away. And do not forget to peek out the plane window and gaze at heaven on earth from above.

Bora Bora's beauty lies in almost everything it can offer. From dreamlike views of the lagoon, snow-white sandy beaches, turquoise water, and overwater bungalows, to a neverending tropical wonderland. The crystalline waters are full of exotic colored fish and manta rays which bring its coral gardens to life. Bora Bora being a water wonderland offers more than anyone can account for. Diving, snorkeling, jet skiing, fishing, helicopter tours around the lagoon, skydiving… and for the not-so-faint-at-heart, even shark and ray dives.

For those who are a prone to adventurous hiking that’s a bit more down to earth, Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu are available destinations, with tour guides and jeep safari. Since the island has no existing public transport, you have plenty of creative ways to see more of its beauty. Recommended transport on the island are bicycle and car rentals, and also motorboat rentals for those who wish to explore the island by water. Although most tourist sites are water-based there are a few interesting land-based attractions you can visit, apart from the two peaks.

For those who like to venture, the main village Vaitape is always close by, and for those who like to shop, this is their opportunity to take a look at the local boutiques. Foodies also have the opportunity to taste exquisite French cuisine in some of the top-rated local restaurants such as La Villa Mahana, Mai Kai Bora Bora and Restaurant St James.

Some would argue that there is no place like home...but there is certainly no place like Bora Bora eithr. From the moment you glimpse it from above, stepping onto the picturesque sandy beaches and swimming in the turquoise waters, exploring the island’s majestic beauty, heading for every adventure it throws your way, to the moment you take that last look over your shoulder to marvel in her beauty for the last time, Bora Bora will always make you feel like you have just experienced heaven on earth.
