Vitamin D deficiency symptoms ordinarily involve deformed bones. Adults with osteomalacia feel chronic muscle aches and pain. Bowing of the legs (nutritional rickets) are seen in children who aren’t producing enough vitamin D. Any defect in the metabolism of the vitamin can cause a rare genetic form of rickets to develop. One type occurs due to a defect in the renal 25-hydroxyvitamin D-1 alpha-hydroxylase that results in the reduced production of 1,25 (OH) 2 D. The other type simply happens when a vitamin D receptor (VDR) has a mutation. 
Vitamin D can easily be synthesized just by going outside when there is sunlight to get your skin expose to the sun rays. That is why vitamin D is also known as the sunshine vitamin.  Of the two main types of vitamin D, only D3 can be developed in the skin as ultraviolet B (UVB) makes contact with it.  Hence, an epidemiology study found the rate of vitamin D deficiency is highest among elderly, hospitalized, or institutionalized individuals. 
Vitamin D Deficiency Affecting Cancer
Vitamin D deficiency may lead to perilous medical conditions, including cancer. The symptoms for having a minimal amount are warning signs that something in your body is not proper. 
Vitamin D regulates normal cellular differentiation thus preventing cancer and helps insulin secretion. 
Use Tanning Beds
There is an alternative way to synthesize vitamin D from UVB rays if you live in a place that hardly gets any sunlight for a long period of time. Tanning beds are likely to be useful for individuals to use. The firs thing you should do for your own health is to educate yourself about the specific tanning bed you will be using.
Be Cautious with UVA and UVB
Always make sure right before you use a tanning bed that isn’t calibrated to emit about 90 percent UVA rays. That configuration maximizes the tanning effect of the machine and minimizes the chance of getting your skin burned. Also, it’s imperative to avoid being overexposed to UVB, which is the important one to get since it initiates the synthesization of vitamin D. 
Michael Holick, MD, a professor with Boston University School of Medicine and author of The UV Advantage, stated to
make sure the tanning bed emits UVB, which is done with medium-pressure lamps. 
People should avoid high-pressure lamps because it will waste your time by emitting UVA, which is not responsible for the synthesizing of vitamin D. Moreover, Dr. Holick recommends using the beds for only 30 percent to 50 percent of the usual time suggested for tanning. He stated that the face produces very little vitamin while the rest of the body is capable of doing so. Thus, he also recommends placing sun screen on the face during each session. 
Fortunately, there is another option besides eating certain food and/or taking supplements to increase the production of vitamin D. Going to a tanning salon may not be an option for some people, but some exposure to UVB could only help individuals with their vitamin D levels. There are healthy ways to cope with any vitamin D deficiency symptoms.
