Have you ever wondered if there was such a thing as vitamins for healthy hair? It is true that vitamins can help you have healthy hair, but there are other factors to consider as well. Vitamins for the hair can only do so much; you cannot depend on vitamins alone. Keep in mind that how you care for hair is very important.

A person who has good hair care habits will have healthier hair than those who abuse their hair. Examples of abusing hair would be over working it with a blow dryer and curling irons and multiple hair chemicals such as perm and color. You can also damage hair by doing chemical services too often. Additionally, be aware that sun, wind and chlorine can wreck havoc on hair in just a few days.

New hair is always growing, so while the damaged hair is slowly but surely getting cut off you can take vitamins for the hair that is growing in. This way you will eventually have a full head of healthy hair. It will take time, so don't think that vitamins for the hair are a quick fix.

Vitamins for healthy hair cannot take the place of the foods that contain those vitamins they only assist them. It's a good idea to assess your diet before you buy hair vitamins. This way you will be able to determine vitamin dosage. For instance, if you eat plenty of foods that contain vitamin E then you could go with a lower dosage of vitamin E. To be on the safe side consult a nutritionist.

By the way, vitamin E is one of the healthy hair vitamins. Foods that have vitamin E are: Eggs, milk, margarine, mayonnaise, whole grains, wheat germ oil, almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, peanuts, seeds, avocado, sweet potatoes, mango, papaya, blueberries and avocado. Vitamin E also improves circulation and builds up the immune system.

Vitamin A and C and E are all antioxidants and are excellent healthy hair vitamins. They're beneficial for the skin and nails as well. Antioxidants help to get rid of free radicals in the body. Free radicals destroy cells in our body and make us more susceptible to disease and illness.

Foods that contain vitamin A are: Cheese, eggs, milk, pumpkin, carrots, sweet potatoes, cabbage, liver, peaches, cantaloupe, spinach, papaya and mangoes. Some vitamin C foods are: Tomatoes, citrus fruits, kiwi, strawberries, potatoes, peppers and cauliflower.

Another family of vitamins for healthy hair is the B vitamins. Some of the B vitamins will help more that others, however, taking a B complex vitamin will do for simplicity sake. A few foods that contain B vitamins: Egg yolks, milk, poultry, organ meat, fish, potatoes, rice and whole grains.

Zinc is considered a mineral and works in conjunction with vitamins to promote healthy hair. Additionally, like vitamin E, it helps boost the immune system and maximize cell production. You can find zinc in: most animal proteins, nuts, whole grains, seeds and oysters. Ask a nutritionist to assist with proper dosage of zinc.

The right combination of foods, proper hair care and vitamins for the hair work together for best results. Too much alcohol and or drugs can reduce benefits of vitamins.

Taking care of your hair from the 'inside out' is so important....it isn't just the shampoo and conditioner you use....that is for sure.
