There are many parent's think that their kids are eating a fairly healthy and nutritious diet. Today's drug companies are making lot of money my changing shapes means these days multivitamins tablets are coming in various type of shapes like gummy candy, gumballs, and cute animal and cartoon character shapes many kids think that vitamins are candies, this is a serious issue as kids can take extra tablets which results in overdose. So, be careful.
Note, that an over dose of vitamins with iron could cause serious illness or even death therefore; it is recommended that vitamins and all manner of medication be kept out of the reach of children. Call immediately to your local poison control center if you suspect that your child has ingested too many tablets.
Generic multivitamins are essential and best for your child and it will be better that your children get most of their vitamins from their diets. If your child is not drinking milk or becoming deficient by not consuming certain type of diet then multivitamins are great source in order to prevent deficiency.
- Do consult to your child's pediatrician for advice.
- Do not give your child more than one vitamin a day this action is necessary one vitamin could avoid others from being absorbed by the body. Like, calcium could prevent the absorption of iron or other vitamins.
- Do not try to load your child with iron because too much iron in the blood can cause a disease called hemochromatosis as, it is difficult for the body to utilize the iron and it is not eliminated by the body easily.
- In order to maintain or build strong bones and muscles use calcium rich diet for your child. Some good sources of calcium are yogurt, and cheese and milk, calcium-fortified juices, cereals and other vitamins.
- Avoid fluoride containing products like drinking fluoride treated water or fluoride bottled water, and/or toothpaste because fluoride is responsible for teeth staining.
Vitamins for children can be a very good thing however too much of a good thing can be fatal. Keep them out of reach of children.
