Volunteering at a soup kitchen for Thanksgiving is a wonderful way to spend Thanksgiving. You partake in an opportunity to help other individuals who may have less than you or be down on their luck. Giving your time during this holiday will allow you to give a part of yourself and really embrace the idea behind the holiday. Here's how to volunteer at a Soup Kitchen.

Things You Will Need

Want to give on Thanksgiving

Desire to Help others

Internet

Step 1 The idea behind helping at a soup kitchen on Thanksgiving requires some planning. Several weeks prior to Thanksgiving, take to the internet and start looking where you would like to plan your time. There is always help needed during this time and the best place to look is where you see fit. Check your local church or nonprofit. Also consider the local Salvation Army, Goodwill and even the Senior Center where they set up Thanksgiving Day Dinners.
Step 2 Once you find a location you want to volunteer, then give the location a call and find out what type of help they need, what the hours are for the volunteers to be there and then decide if you want to commit to that obligation.
Step 3 After you have found your perfect volunteer spot, the next time you need to worry about volunteering is Thanksgiving Day. However you may want to call a week prior to Thanksgiving to make sure you are still needed and the plans haven't changed.
Step 4 Now the day of Thanksgiving you need to get to the volunteer location so you can help as you promised. Remember it is a commitment to say you will be there to volunteer so show up on time (or a few minutes early) so you can get ready to enjoy your time.
Step 5 At the volunteer location, give your best and bring your A game. The idea is to give yourself and be kind to others. Don't talk down to people and make sure you don't ask why people are at the food back. Instead talk about things that are common and if their personal situation becomes part of the conversation, then don't judge, only listen.

Volunteering at a soup kitchen is one incredible experience. It is a wonderful way to show the kids how to help others and help the world.
