Ever since the summer of 2002, the music festival Bonnaroo has occurred in Manchester Tennessee. Bonnaroo attracts thousands of avid music fans for four days every year, all attending the festival to see musicians from around the world. Bonnaroo boasts a wide variety of artists, ranging from world famous headliners to buzz worthy up and comers. The styles of music stretch across the board, so basically there is always something for everyone.
The festival itself is what I look most forward to throughout the year. The environment is a beautiful place, and it allows you to see several of your favorite bands and musicians in a short amount of time. One of the most exciting times in correlation to Bonnaroo, is the anticipation of what the next years possible lineup can hold. The curiosity of what musical artists and comedians will attend Bonnaroo is strong enough to make you want to fast forward through time to when the lineup drops. The Bonnaroo lineup usually comes out in early February, but sometimes it's just too hard to wait until then for information on what artists are going to attend the festival.
Different message board are set up in order for the festival goers to discuss possible rumors for artists planning on attending, along with other aspects of the festival. The most popular Bonnaroo message board is Inforoo, which gives a list of up to date rumors and confirmations for the festival. The detailed list is compiled of different second-hand stories, assumptions, and literal confirmations from the artists themselves. With the Bonnaroo 2011 lineup approaching, people are submitting rumors more rapidly. Expectations for the Bonnaroo 2011 lineup are running high, considering this is the Bonnaroo music and arts festivals 10th anniversary. So far, the list of artists rumored on Inforoo, include:
My Morning Jacket
Portugal The Man
Florence & The Machine
Cage the Elephant
Matt & Kim
Jessica Lea Mayfield
Mumford & Sons
Cold War Kids
Street Sweeper Social Club
Ben Harper & The R7
Ra Ra Riot
This is by no means a definitive list, but it holds some credibility. Some of the rumors have came from confirmations from the bands themselves, while others have been picked up from friends of friends, or other somewhat unreliable sources. Inforoo gives links for each artist which explains why they are rumored.
By browsing the message boards, the wait for the lineup drop is not as bad. It allows you to keep excitement for the festival as more information pours in. It's a good way to occupy your time until Bonnaroo 2011 actually occurs June 9-12.
The lineup for Bonnaroo 2011 can make the wait for the festival even harder for you. It's hard waiting five months to see a series of bands you're dying to see. A good benefit of having the lineup early, is to actually discover some artists on the lineup that you're not entirely familiar with. You may discover an artist that you had no idea about, but that would be really great to see perform live. The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival is an extremely fun experience, the only negative aspect is the wait. Along with following message boards and listening to new bands, you can also kill your time between the festival by learning how to grow the perfect beard.
