Want To Know The Causes Of Hair Thinning In Men?
The causes of thinning hair in men can be a little different to those for women. The major cause is what is known as male pattern baldness, or androgenic alopecia. This is the inherited condition where a man inherits a gene from his forebears that predisposes him to genetic hair loss. However even if your father and grandfather were bald that doesn't mean that you will be too. However the chances of that are high.
Statistics show that around 4 out of 7 men will carry the gene for androgenic alopecia. Somewhere around 70 percent of men will experience some form of balding during their lifetime and a quarter of these will start to see thinning hair by the age of 30. By the age of 60 around 60 percent of men will suffer some hair thinning.
Whilst male pattern baldness, or androgenic alopecia, is the major cause of hair thinning in men there are others. For example there are some medical conditions and some medications that can cause hair loss. The most well-known of these is chemotherapy but there are others as well. For this reason if you are starting to worry about a receding hairline one of the 1st things you should do is to consult a doctor and eliminate the possibility of a medical problem.
If you are on any medications you ought ask your doctor about the possibility that the medication may be causing some form of hair loss. Hopefully your doctor. would have already discussed that with you.
Stress can cause hair loss, though this can be temporary, and poor diet can also cause hair loss. The Western diet high in red meat consumption is known to result in higher rates of hair loss.
It seems clear that by far the most common cause of hair thinning in men is male pattern baldness. The question is, if you're suffering, what do you do about it? Luckily there are some answers, however it is important to get onto the problem as soon as you become aware of it.
Luckily the actual mechanism by which the hair is lost as a result of the genetic predisposition is now known. Basically it comes down to male hormones. The good news for men suffering from baldness is that they are chock full of the male hormone testosterone. But it is not the testosterone causes the problem, it is actually another hormone called DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) that is derived from testosterone that is the cause of the problem.
DHT is created from testosterone and DHT attaches itself to the hair follicles and reduces the ability of the hair follicles to absorb essential nutrients. And men who suffer from male pattern baldness have a greater amount of DHT in their hair follicles.
Once science discovered this was then it was able to produce a cure, and the result was the first product approved by the FDA as a male hair loss treatment called minoxidil. Minoxidil has been proven to be effective in treating most cases of male pattern baldness, though of course not all.
Minoxidil is marketed under a range of different brand names however one approach that is more successful than the others combines the use of minoxidil with a range of essential hair nutrients taken orally. The minoxidil blocks the operation of the DHT and the hair nutrients mean that the hair follicle has optimum nutrition available to it to ensure maximum hair regrowth.
This is a more successful approach and minoxidil on its own.
So you can see that there is a wide range of causes of thinning hair in men but it's true to say that the vast majority of men with hair thinning suffer from male pattern baldness which, if unwanted, will continue until a certain degree of baldness is realized.
Fortunately there are now treatments catch it early. The best hair loss treatment combines minoxidil with hair nutrients.
