Wardrobe Closets Are Making a Comeback!

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

I'm an interior decorator. This means it's my job to be all up on the trends when it comes to what's hot and what's not. I get to not just be in on the trend, but by guiding my clients, I can help shape the trends themselves!

Personally, I've always been a big fan of antiques. Not necessarily design antiques that serve no function, save for the aesthetic appeal - such as antique dishes on the wall, or old rotary phones that don't work but look neat. But I have been big on furniture that's antique but still functional, everything from classic art deco couches that are still great for sitting and old fashioned wardrobe closets whose doors open wide.

Speaking of which, I'm seeing wardrobe closets making quite a come back in modern day interior decoration. People are starting to scoop them up and use them as a head piece in not just their master bedroom, but the living room, the dining room, even a large hallway!

Why is this happening? Why are people flocking towards this style of antique furniture?

I think it's to counter act the flood of almost every other type of furniture which is mass produced and all look the same. In a world where everything is the same and nothing is unique, a hand made antique from France made in the year 1845 truly stands out.

And for those without the wallet to back such an antique, the modern day wardrobe closets are still designed to appear as if they are older than they are. Additionally, they are solid, and will last a lifetime, one day truly becoming an antique and perhaps even a family heirloom, if they are taken care of.

In this way, the wardrobe closet will continue to come back, being passed from family to family, the way they used to do so hundreds of years ago before you could buy one at the store!
