Many of us live in apartments and smaller homes these days, and space can be hard to find. If you have small kitchen, a small utility room (or none at all!) and not much bedroom space, finding a place to put a large, bulky washing machine and clothes dryer can be tough. That's why space saving washer dryer combos are such a great idea. These are washers and dryers which take up less space than a traditional standalone washer and dryer while still drying your clothes just as well.

Washer dryer combinations come in many different types. One small, inexpensive type of washer dryer is called a laundry center. This is a one piece appliance with a washing machine on the bottom and a dryer on top. These machines usually have controls located centrally (both washer and dryer together) and come in sizes ranging from slightly smaller than a standalone washer dryer to regular sized. They can fit where other units can't. For example, you might be able to fit one in a closet in your kitchen or bedroom, or in the space beside a bookshelf in a back room. Because they take up much less space than a traditional washer and dryer, you have a lot more options for where to put it.

One drawback of a laundry center type combo is that the units typically lack features you might find in a higher end model. That's because they're mainly marketed towards lower income people than the fancier models. If you're looking for a stacked washer dryer combo, you can just buy the washer and dryer separately and stack them. For this to work, the washer and dryer must be designed for staking. For example, the washer must be a front loader with controls on the front. The dryer must have it's controls on the front, too. Some hardware might be required to mount the dryer on top of the washer safely. Many companies sell kits for this purpose. The advantage of buying a stackable washer dryer combo over a laundry center type appliance is that you can get your favorite model washer and dryer, even if they're different brands. You can also get a model with more features than most laundry center appliances.
