By Edited May 11, 2016 0 2

How do you get money during a recession? It may be difficult, especially if you have poor credit, but there are plenty of things you can do beyond high risk personal loans to raise money. Besides, qualifying for bad credit loans has become even harder during the recession. You can still make it on your own. Here's how to make it all happen.

The first way you can get money during a recession is a 401(k) loan. Even if you have really bad credit, a 401(k) loan may work for you because you're simply borrowing your own money. This should only be used for true emergencies as you'll lose money for the future. For some, this is a good way to make it through tough times when the banks just don't want to make a loan out in your name. It's a good method to get money during a recession.

Have you considered a reverse mortgage? A reverse mortgage allows you to tap into your home equity. You must be 62 or older to qualify for these types of programs. Of course, the money you make from this can help you with living expenses, but it ultimately means you will not be able to will as much to your children or other heirs. Still, this is a good way to make money during the recession, so you can survive.

You may be able to cash in your whole life insurance policies. There are certain age limits involved with life settlements. Life settlements are relatively new and not well regulated. Just like the other methods, you will assume some risk when you try to make money during the recession this way. Use caution, and you should be okay.

With the poor housing market, you may be able to get a home equity loan. The banking industry isn't doing so well, as a result, they NEED your business. Keep in mind, however, that the loans typically go to those with good credit these days. You may still land a high risk personal loan on occasion, but it's more difficult with the recession. Even with poor credit, there are many online banks that will give you a home equity loan or even negotiate a mortgage refi when unemployed or with bad credit.

Clean out your attic and garage to turn trash into cash. You may find several antiques or other valuables. Even if all you find is old junk, you may be able to raise money quickly with a yard sale. It will help you get through the recession and make some money fast, so you can survive.

Good article, the trouble is people knowingly spend more than they have. They also have to learn to save for the bad days when things go wrong.
