When it comes to finding ways to make your face appear thinner, it is important to understand that what is flattering to one person’s appearance can have the opposite effect in another person. Fortunately, regardless of the shape of your face or your features, there are things you can to give your face a thinner appearance.

Haircuts for a Thinner Appearance

Try a haircut with ear-level layers. Use a thick, round brush to style your hair inward. The layers will frame your face and make it appear slimmer. Eyebrow-skimming bangs styled to one side can also create a thinner appearance.

Make Your Face Appear Thinner with Makeup

Use blush and bronze to define your cheekbones and make your face seem angular. Apply bronzer along the top of your cheekbones. Make a fish face and brush on some blush in the hollowed area. A rosy-nude shade will work best. Blend in well. The contrast between the bronzer and the blush will give your face an oval appearance.

Another option is to contour your face with cream concealer. Choose a concealer that is about two shades darker than the shade of your skin. Make a fish face, and apply contour crème along the bottom line of your cheekbone  with your fingers tips. Apply a thin layer of loose powder. Blend in the powder with a kabuki brush.

Use the concealer and loose powder to reduce the appearance of a double chin. Be sure to blend in the crème and the powder with the kabuki brush.

Use eyeliner and mascara to make your eyes look larger. This will also create a slimming effect.

Create a Thinner Look with Clothes and Accessories

Wear tops with a v-neckline, and make your face look slimmer. If you choose to wear jewelry, avoid short necklaces with large stones.  It is also a good idea to avoid earrings with hoops, circles and balls, which can also add to the roundness and fullness of your face. Stick or teardrop earrings and longer necklaces are better choices, as these tend to elongate your face.

Eat the Right Foods for a Thinner Appearance

Sugar, salt and an over consumption of simple carbohydrates tend to promote water retention, which can make your face look puffy and fuller. Fortunately, there are many foods that contain diuretic properties and can help your body get rid of excess fluids. Here are some examples of foods containing diuretic properties:

  • Celery
  • Parsley/Cilantro
  • Cantaloupes
  • Watermelons
  • Pineapples
  • Cucumbers

As you can see, there are many tips and tricks for making your face appear thinner. Factors such as the haircut you choose to the foods you eat can influence the shape of your face. So remember to choose tops and jewelry pieces that contribute to making your face appear thinner.
