By Edited Jun 2, 2016 0 0

One of the most interesting aspects of Internet marketing is webhosting. There are a lot of different types and varieties of webhosting. You can choose cloud hosting, Linux hosting, Windows hosting, and many others. You can also choose shared hosting, dedicated hosting, and a virtual private server. In addition to these you also have countless choices among webhosts to use. Here are some tips to help the newbie find good webhosting that will fit their needs.

Linux vs. Windows Webhosting

People who are not very technically inclined and are buying a web space spot for their first website often struggle to make the decision between a Linux and a Windows web server host. A few people even think that they have to choose Windows webhosting because their computer is a Windows computer. This is extremely wrong. In order to keep things simple, unless you are working for Microsoft, always opt for a Linux server.

A Linux server will allow you better access, more functionality, and will allow you to upgrade in the future easier. There are no Active Server Pages problems with a Linux server. Always choose a Linux Server. There are always a few reasons you may want to choose a Windows server, but unless you are an expert and have specific reasons you should never choose a Windows server. You are probably setting up a blog so you will be able to use either type of host; however a Linux webhost is probably the best type of server for your needs.

Web Hosting Options

When you are starting a blog on your own domain name and begin searching for webhosting you will find that you will generally have a choice of:

  • Shared Hosting
  • Dedicated Host
  • Virtual Private Server (VPS)

Shared Hosting

Shared hosting is a server that is used by numerous different websites. Shared hosting is the cheapest hosting option available because a web hosting company can sell webspace on the server to numerous websites and be very profitable. Shared hosting is best for new websites just starting out.

When you look for webhosting it is vital that you find a webhost that uses Fantastico or Softaculous. Softaculous or Fantastico are programs you can access from your control panel on your webhost. Softaculous or Fantastico allow you to instantly and easily install a variety of programs simply by clicking a couple of buttons. It takes 2 minutes or less to Install WordPress and other programs.

Softaculous or Fantastico allows anybody to install WordPress easily and quickly. Even if you are an experienced tech person and have the ability to install a program from scratch without the assistance of Softaculous or Fantastico you should still use Softaculous or Fantastico. Softaculous and Fantastico allow you to quickly install the needed WordPress software so you can begin blogging sooner. The purpose is to get your website live and earning you money. The time you take to manually install WordPress and other software could be much better spent writing articles for your new blog. Work smarter and not harder.

Dedicated Hosting

Dedicated hosting is an entire webserver that is used specifically for your website and no other website. You have the entire server to yourself. Dedicated hosting is usually used by extremely busy websites that get a lot for traffic. Dedicated hosting is also very expensive as compared to shared hosting options. If you are a new blogger then you will not need to start out on a dedicated host.

Virtual Private Server (VPS)

A VPS server is often used when websites outgrow their shared hosting environment but are not yet ready for a full-dedicated server. A VPS is similar to a shared hosting set-up in that there are multiple websites hosted on a shared server. The main differences though are that each website has a dedicated partition of the server that is used specifically for their website and no other website on the server has access to your resources.

Although there are multiple websites hosted on each server, there are not near as many as on a shared host. VPS servers can also be very affordable and can often be priced between $20-$50 a month depending on the server specs you get.
