Wedding Attire

By | Jan 27, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Wedding attire is so tricky since there is so much to choose from. The most important thing is not to show up wearing something completely off. So, here are tips to finding the perfect wedding attire.

1. First, look at the wedding venue so you understand what type of wedding it is. Sometimes, the invitation will say formal attire or semi-formal attire required. If that is the case, it makes your job a little easier. But, the location will sometimes give you good clues as well. If it is a more upscale hotel, country club or mansion, then you know that you have to wear at least something semi-formal. If it is on the beach, in a backyard, or a garden, then a spring or summer dress is more appropriate and you definitely don't have to be as formal.

2. Next, look at the time of the wedding. Afternoon wedding attire is not as formal as an evening wedding. An evening wedding usually requires more elegant wedding shoes such as silver wedding shoes or something more sparkly. An afternoon wedding requires less formal attire.

3. After understanding what type of attire the event requires, look through your own closet. First, take out anything that is white. Only the bride should be wearing white to a wedding. Even something cream is usually not appropriate since it is too close to white. Next, if it is an Asian wedding, try not to wear black. Although something that is black and white is OK, all black is usually frowned upon by the older generation so try to avoid that.

4. After removing black and white, check out the other colors. One thing you might want to find out the colors of the bridesmaid dresses. I once went to a wedding where a woman was constantly mistaken for a bridesmaid. This meant that she got countless questions asked of her the entire time. If you want to avoid that mistake, try to avoid the color of the bridesmaid dresses.

5. After that, choosing the dress should be simpler. Then, after you choose the dress, you can find a pair of wedding heels that match. Then, simply find the right jewelry, earrings and purse and your outfit is ready. If you don't know, go for a purse that is simple for the afternoon and more sparkly for the evening. For jewelry, do the same thing. If it is an evening wedding, you can wear something bigger and flashier. For an afternoon wedding, choose something more demure and make sure you choose wedding shoes that match.
