Wedding Cakes: Savor the Flavor

By | Jul 29, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

An enormous amount of effort goes into deciding how a wedding cake should look. Obsessive brides agonize over shape, color, and even height. Everyone wants to have the perfect cake - the ultimate symbol of the luxuriance of your wedding day and in some ways a scale version of the expensive wedding dress brides lust after from an early age. However, this leads to many brides overlooking one of the most memorable parts of the wedding cake: its flavor.

Brides who prefer the elegance and simplicity of white cakes needn't settle for plain taste. There are a number of white cakes available with exceptional flavor. Increasingly popular are chocolate cakes, vanilla flavored cakes and almond flavored cakes are becoming increasingly popular. It's ok to break tradition.

Why does the cake even have to be white? Some brides are opting to move away from white altogether and instead to add color to their wedding cakes. Strawberry and lemon flavors add zest to a wedding cake. Some brides even get fruity with an orange or banana flavored cake.

Rich, deep flavors are also popular choices for wedding cakes. Alongside chocolate there are many a plethora dark-colored choices available. Red velvet cake, Kahlua, and even Mexican chocolate would each be memorable wedding cake flavors.

With several tiers to a traditional wedding cake there is the option for more than one flavor. Many brides are choosing to mix flavors to appease all of the guests at the reception. While one layer of cake may be strawberry-flavored, another flavor might be vanilla-flavored or have a more traditional flavor to appease older guests. Or, for a mixture of flavor in each bite, brides can opt for a marble cake.

Altering the type of wedding cake isn't the only way to add to its flavor. Some wedding cake professionals add fillings to their cakes. Fruit-flavored fillings, rich cream fillings, and even liqueur-based fillings all add an extra level of flavor to help the cake stand out and be remembered. This might not be the best choice if you are looking to save money on a wedding cake.

For a true feeling of decadence, carrot cakes covered in a thick layer of icing offer a traditional yet luxurious alternative. Tiramisu, a rich Italian dessert, also adds luxury. Even cheesecakes are increasing in popularity as wedding cakes.

Of course the look of your wedding cake is important and time should be spent deliberating on this, the photo opportunity of the cake cutting ceremony alone demands that it look it's best. But you should spare some thought to its flavor. Your guests will thank you for the consideration. After all, the memory of a unique and unconventional cake is as vivid as any photo.
