Wedding Dress Patterns And The Modern Day Bride

A simple look at the history of dresses will show that just because we have the means and the methods to make mass produced dresses, doesn't mean they are easier to make. Indeed, many modern dresses are hand beaded and appliqued. Designers of wedding dresses often have hand sew the beading, embroidery and applique onto the dresses they create as well. This is why some designer dresses can cost thousands of dollars, and why wedding dresses in general cost more than a couple of hundred dollars. Of course, you can find dresses that cost only a few hundred dollars, but they are generally plain, pre-worn or made of cheap materials and appliques. The best way to achieve the lowest prices for elaborate gowns is to use wedding dress patterns to make designer dresses or designer look-a-like dresses.

While not always saving money, using a pattern can do so. It's important to remember that if you cannot make the dress yourself, a seamstress will charge for the amount of bead work, applique, lace and other materials used in making the dress, as well as his or her time. Unless the dress you want is an expensive, it may not be more cost effective to have it made. The more expensive a dress is, the more money one saves when using a seamstress to make the dress. It's even more cost effective to make the dress yourself, if you're capable.

Another of the best reasons to use a pattern is so one has the choice of color. The styles of today's bride ranges from the traditional white to the vibrant colors of dresses. Every color of the rainbow is used for brides today. The most popular colors of today are black, white and red wedding dresses. A great reason to use wedding dress patterns is to create any dress style you want, in any color and fabric you want. The most beautiful of dresses and styles come from various designers like Vera Wang and Judd Waddell. But those gowns cost upwards of $3000 and most couples can't afford that dress. Enter the seamstress and her fabulous gown making skills, and suddenly a $3000 costs barely $1000. Quite a savings. The best part is you can often even find a $10000 dress and have that made for around $1000. While the dress won't be an exact copy of the designer gown, it will be beautiful and a lot better for your budget.

While I write about all sorts of weddings, costumes and shoes, I can't take credit for any articles about dresses. That belongs solely to my friend Mari, who knows just about everything on dresses there is to know. Please visit any of her women's dresses sites where she focuses on real women and real clothes.
