Weigh Down Diet Plan - Does it Work?

By | Feb 3, 2011 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

About 11 years ago I lost 50 pounds by applying principles that I found in the Weigh Down Diet Plan book by Gwendolyn Shamblin. At the time, I was a new believer and I absorbed and applied all of the information that I read. And it worked for me. Not only did I lose weight, I also kept it off for years. I developed a very healthy relationship with food with the Weigh Down Diet plan and I had no issues with overeating for several years.

After going through Air Force basic training I started to battle with food again. I am convinced that the unhealthy things that go on with food when I was training was the cause. I was denied some meals, had to eat when I wasn’t hungry, couldn’t eat when I was, and often wasn’t able to eat enough to be satisfied. It was completely impossible to apply the Weigh Down Diet plan while in basic training. And once I graduated I never figured out how to get back to that healthy state again.

I decided to reread the Weigh Down Diet plan book but didn’t find it so helpful the second time around. After being in the Lord for several years, I found the plan to be legalistic and hard to live up to. I didn’t like feeling like if I took one bite more than my body needed then I was a helpless glutton. The Weigh Down Diet plan doesn’t specifically use that terminology. But that’s how I felt because the book seemed to have a very judgemental tone to it that I didn’t notice the first time around. So, I decided it wasn’t going to work for me again.

I am sure that if I hadn’t felt the judgmental tone or if I could have ignored it and just used the principles and not worried about how they were being delivered then I would have had success a second time with the Weigh Down Diet plan. But I couldn’t get past that point.

Answer to the Question - Does the Weigh Down Diet Plan Work
I have to say that yes the plan definitely can work for you. If you apply the principles and make your weight loss between you and God then you can be successful like I was the first time that I used the Weigh Down Diet plan. However, if you are put off by the tone that is used in the book then you probably will not get much out of it; as evidenced by my second attempt with the program.

If You Want to Try the Weigh Down Diet Plan
If you are interested in trying the program but are skeptical about whether or not it will work for you then I suggest that you check out the book from your local library. That way you can read through it at your leisure without investing any money. I don’t suggest that you take a Weigh Down Diet Plan class through a local church because it is costly and you may find that the course is not for you. Another option is to purchase the book used through Amazon. Currently you can get a decent used copy with shipping costs for under $10.
