Hi, my name is Brian. I am a Firefighter/Paramedic and also a Cath lab tech. Everybody knows what a Firefighter does; some may not know what a Paramedic does, so I will explain briefly.
A firefighter in Florida is required to become a certified EMT or Paramedic. We run various degrees of medical calls, from a fall to cardiac arrest. The ambulance is basically our office and it resembles a small mobile Emergency Room. You can imagine what type of things we see on a daily basis. It’s not all bad as you might think, we get to talk to and help a lot of nice people.

Why Listen To Me?
I am in a unique position because I see the effects of people eating the typical American diet every day. I get to see the beginning of the journey, like a new onset of type 2 diabetes. I see new heart problems, like angina or a-fib. I see neurological problems, like TIA or stroke. And I unfortunately get to see the end result every day: cardiac arrest, major strokes, diabetic emergencies, extreme high blood pressure, etc. We had a lady wake up because her husband felt cold; he was dead from a heart attack at 55 years old. We lift people onto our stretchers that are over 300 pounds daily! We have patients that were a little winded from taking a stress test and came to find out at 60 years old they are going to need triple bypass surgery! Just imagine their quality of life after going through that.
The point I am trying to make is that these problems are all DIET RELATED problems. I always hear the worst statement ever; it always makes me laugh and cringe at the same time. “It’s genetics, my whole family has heart problems
Just An Excuse
I have never heard anybody tell me as a patient in the Cath lab of their confusion due to the fact that they eat mostly plant based foods, beans, seeds, nuts, sprouted grains, no dairy, no oils, etc. And at the fire department I have never ran a call for an obese vegetarian or a person having a heart attack due to eating too little hamburgers.
I do have to say that there are exceptions to the rule. I always get the one person that has a story of their old uncle Joe that “all he ate was veggies” or “he was a marathon runner” and they dropped dead for one reason or the other. “Eating all that kale isn’t good for you.” Or “you eat too much salad; you need more protein in your diet.” People who say this are usually are in the worst shape. Again, there are exceptions to the rule! Some people have underlying congenital issues that will cause problems regardless if they eat pizza every day or veggie juice. Now let’s talk about a diet for the 99% of other people. Not to mention that even those with the congenital problems will benefit from eating healthy anyway.
I want to say that the information that I provide has been ideas from about 20 different authors and diet guru’s from the last 10 to 15 years. I have, in my pea brain, come to finally filter out all of the garbage information. At the same time I have retained and put into practice all of the truthful and useful information. By doing this I have slowly dropped down to my optimal waist-to-height measurements. The key word is "slowly". You do not want to try to lose a bunch of water weight just to gain it back.
Ok, this is so simple that it won’t take you much time to read it, but if you are smart you will take ALL of your time to instill it into your life. DO NOT SLUFF THIS OFF! If you are gaining weight, are in poor health, have type 2 diabetes, uncontrolled food cravings, addicted to food, etc. Then this is for you!
Eat ½ fresh and ½ cooked veggies. Eat lots of kale, collards, mustard greens, spinach, and other green leafy veggies. They make you feel energized!

Here is what I think from what I have seen and tried. The “American Diet” is the perfect way to get heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, and feel tired all the time. The more veggies, beans, live foods, and water you can replace for the bad foods in your diet the better. You will feel 100% better. You can start replacing your beta blockers, glucose control medications, Statins, cholesterol medications, pain pills, arthritis medications, or whatever you are on and start making your food your medicine!
If you are overweight then eat this way and also start to walk. If you can only walk for 10 minutes, then WALK FOR 10 MINUTES! You have to think to start somewhere and then build onto it. That is the key as well as not ever quitting! Do not quit ever! You have people that love you and want you to lose the weight but nobody is going to say anything because they know that it’s a touchy subject for you and really when it comes down to it, besides your family, nobody could care less about your health.
