Weight Loss With Good Nutrition
It seems like everyone has a quick way to lose weight. It's all over the Internet - fast ways to flatten your tummy, shrink your butt, tone your arms, and lose that elusive 20 pounds you haven't been able to lose yet. This is all very wonderful for these people who want you to click you their ads, but you know better, right? You know that miracles are all well and good, but to safely, effectively and permanently lose the weight, you've got to change your lifestyle.
Here are some of the best ways to make your diet work for you instead of being worked by some crazy diet. If you need extra help on top of that, you can get it, but without a change in what you eat and and least some commitment to exercise, whatever you do will probably be a short-lived miracle.
Make half your grains whole grains. This tip comes from the people who brought you the food pyramid. People forget that grains are good for them and try to eliminate them in no carb diets, but the truth is that grains are essential, and if you avoid a lot of refined products (white bread, white rice, doughnuts . . .) and instead try things like whole wheat bread and pasta, brown rice, popcorn and rolled outs, you'll be amazed and how good for you they really are.
You've got to eat your vegetables, so why eat gross ones? Buy them in season when they'll be cheap and have the best flavor. Get things that are easy to prepare so you won't be tempted to shove them to the back of the refrigerator and you'll be all set.
Make your fruit more accessible than your candy. Leave bowls of it lying around (as long as it's not the stuff that attracts fruit flies). Make sure you get things that are going to be convenient. If you can't ever be bothered to cut up fruit, consider spending extra to get something pre-cut. Fresh fruit will give you more fiber than canned fruit, so whenever you can have something fresh, do it.
Drink milk often, but go for low-fat or skim milk. Work your way down if you have to. Add milk to some things that would normally take water to get more calcium into your diet - soups, hot cereals, etc. Eat fat free yogurt as a smoothie or a fruit dip.
When you eat meat, eat lean cuts and trim the fat from things that still have it. If you can, broil, grill or roast your meat instead of frying it.
There are so many ways to make your diet more healthy in little ways, and they add up into big strides toward a healthier, trimmer, happier person.
