Weird College Scholarships for Surfing Students

By Edited Oct 3, 2016 0 0

Tuition rates for colleges around the country are on the rise. Even less expensive state schools and community colleges are seeing huge tuition hikes. How are people supposed to pay for college if they do not qualify for enough in loans or their parents do not have enough in savings? The answer is easy: scholarships. There are many different scholarships out there, and with a little time and effort, you can find a perfect fit. Even if you are not in a traditional sport or academic organization, there may still be a scholarship for you.

Surfing has risen in popularity over the years and there are many organizations within the surfing community that encourage its members to pursue their education. The International Surfing Association, or ISA, provides financial assistance by way of a scholarship toward lucky surfers. This financial aid may be applied to school or surfing expenses. The applicants must be under 18, demonstrate financial need, and be actively involved in surfing.

The Marsh Scholarship is awarded by the Eastern Surf Association. These awards are given to students who write an essay and are in good standing within the Eastern Surf Association. These scholarships are intended for college, in any post-secondary institution. There are other awards based on merit and rankings in surfing competitions.

All student members of the National Scholastic Surfing Association are eligible for another scholarship directed to post-secondary education. Nothing needs to be done to apply for this scholarship - all student members who meet the requirements are automatically enrolled in this program. That is a very easy scholarship application!

In addition to these organizations, there are other local, regional and international surfing organizations, and many of them offer scholarships or other financial assistance for members or other standouts in the surfing community. Surfing is also a sponsored sport, and money can be awarded based on winning competitions or wearing their clothing during competitions or appearances.

It is never too early to start looking for extra money to go to school. Surfing is not necessarily a career that can last forever, so it is a good idea to have a backup plan or use schooling to learn more about business so you can make better decisions about your surfing career. If you are not already a member of one of these surfing associations, join up. They can provide a lot of assistance as you are looking for aid to go to school.
