What's In Your Martini
Martinis can be made several different ways. They started off from humble origins with gin and vermouth and ice. Garnished with the lowly olive or lemon twist. Today martinis have evolved into many different creations. From different combinations of the original, combining gin and vodka, vermouth, olives, and different garnishes. To new fruity creations made with vodka and other liquors.
Remember that alcohol should always be consumed responsibly and it is perfect acceptable to create a martini like drink with no alcohol in a stemmed glass. In fact that is the original origin of the Gibson. Which is a martini garnished with an onion. But many believed that it was actually ice water garnished with an onion so the drinker could distinguish it from the other beverages.

assic Martinis
If you're making a classic martini purchase the best gin you can afford, some very dry vermouth, and the highest quality cocktail olives you can find. Even though the classic martini usually consists of using a pimento stuffed olives. I like to spice it up, and use the blue cheese stuffed olives.
If gin is not your drink you can always make a classic vodka martini. You still make it the same way you just substitute quality vodka for your expensive gin. You combine ingredients with ice and either shake or stir and then strain into a martini glass.
I prefer to use a shaker although, purists prefer to stir their martini drinks. I consider myself more of a mixologist. I like to create unique flavored martinis I usually will use vodka and my trusty shaker and combine many delicious ingredients to form the perfect drink.
Actually collecting martini shakers can become almost a hobby. There are so many cool vintage and new modern ones available. From glass martini shakers to plastic martini shakers and everything in between.
Flavored Martinis
Some common flavored martinis that you can get at any bar are chocolate martinis, apple martinis, lemon drop martinis, and any other fruity combination you can think of. Most bars also offer their own unique signature drinks.
I also enjoy making seasonal martinis for instance at my last Halloween party I made the classic black martini. To create a black martini you could always use Blavod vodka which is actually black. Or you could use a dark colored liqueur such as blackberry brandy or black raspberry liquor.
When it comes to creating martinis you are only limited by your imagination and the availability of ingredients. Creating and drinking martinis is a combination of art and science, and is also a passion of mine.
