What Can I Do To Improve My Energy Efficiency?

By Edited Feb 26, 2014 0 0

Want to improve your energy efficiency? If you are like me you are looking for ways to make your home more efficient and save some money on your utility bills. Here are some ways I am saving money on my utility bills. Try some of these out and you’ll see how easy it is to save on energy and improve your efficiency too. There are more ways to save on heating expenses in your home than you realize.

Shut Out Lights

Why have lights on all the time? If you want to save money then turn out the lights you’re not using. At night I am sure to turn out lights in the house where they aren’t needed. Only turn on the lights you actually need. There’s no reason to light up your entire home at night as this is just a waste of money and energy too. this is na easy way to increase your energy efficiency.

Open the Dishwasher

During the drying cycle of your dishwasher just open the door and let the dishes dry by themselves. If your machine has an air dry option you can try this one too. You'll save  a lot of money in the long run if you just dry the dishes overnight with the door open on your dishwasher.

Don't Heat Empty Rooms

This is one I really like. If you have an empty room in your house that isn’t being used then close the vents to that room and don’t heat it. Why heat a room that isn’t being used? When you leave a room that has air conditioning be sure to turn the machine off. A cooled room without you inside of it is just a waste. When you go on vacation be sure to turn your thermostat down so you’re not wasting energy.

Turn Off Electronics

If you have electronics around your home be sure to unplug or just turn them off if they aren’t being used. You use small amounts of energy when appliances are left on as the LED lights still shine. When you go away, unplug that big screen television, game systems, and your Blu-ray player to save energy.

Wash In Cold Water

Just use cold water to wash your clothes you don’t need to sue any hot water at all.  Modern detergents are more than capable of cleaning clothes in hot water. If you have heavy stains then just use a stain remover on the spot before you toss it into the laundry. Using hot water doesn't make much sense when the clothes will get just as clean form the use of cold water in mnay cases.

Buy Solar Panels

I know that solar panels are expensive but in the long run they can save you on your utility bills. You’ll be doing something good for the environment and you will have renewable source of energy. You’ll generate energy for your home and you can feel good about this type of purchase. Buying solar panels won't be for everyone but if you have income to buy them, they are a wise choice.
