Many people with athlete’s foot wonder what they can do for it and how to get rid of it as fast as possible. What is it exactly and do you have it? Athlete’s foot is a fungal infection on your feet that can last either a few days or a pretty long time. Also known as ringworm of the foot or tinea pedis, this condition can come back if not treated properly, but also may come back even if you do treat it the right way. I will give you a better idea if you do in fact have this condition, some possible solutions, as well as some good prevention methods so you never get it again!

Why a Person Gets Athlete’s Feet

What are the Symptoms?

- Just like Jock Itch, a similar fungal infection that occurs in the crotch area, tinea pedis thrives in warm, moist areas. So, you can get it if you sweat a lot in your feet and don’t wash them or if you wear dirty shoes or socks a lot.

- You might also get it in a college dorm shower or a public swimming pool shower if you walk around barefoot.

- It athlete’s foot contagious? Unfortunately, yes it is. Try not to share socks or sneakers with others and definitely consider wearing sandals in the shower. Also try to wash the area multiple times a day.

- The symptoms are itchy and red skin and possibly burning. You may also get blisters from it.

How to Get Rid of Athlete’s Foot as Fast as Possible?

Thankfully there are several great over the counter treatments you can get to cure this condition. Antifungal powders or cream is a solid option.

*This is by far the best antifungal powder for athlete’s foot, in my opinion. It’s the highest rated product on Amazon and it should work pretty fast. And it's worked for me personally in the past.

The Best Athlete's Feet Cream?

If you want the cream instead I would recommend this product by Tinactin. It's hard to say whether cream or powder is better for athlete's foot because they both should work and it's really a matter of preference.

Just remember that you should put this on after washing your feet and drying them thoroughly.

How to Prevent Athlete’s Feet

  • The best thing I think you can do is to just keep washing your feet and your socks and shoes.
  • As I mentioned before, you should ALWAYS wear sandals or shoes in a public shower or swimming pool. This condition is contagious!
  • If you even think you are getting athlete’s foot and don’t have it yet, and are experiencing some of the symptoms, you should still consider applying these treatments above just to be on the safe side.

Difference Between Jock Itch and Athlete’s Foot

Other Types of Fungal Infections

Athlete’s feet is unfortunately not the only type of fungal infection a person can get.

  • Jock Itch or Tinea Crurismay appear in your crotch area. This is arguably a worse infection to get then athlete’s foot because the intense itchiness you experience is located in a not so great place!
  • Bodyworm or Tinea Corporis is another type which occurs anywhere on your body.
  • Nail ringworm occurs on nails or fingers.
  • Scalp ringworm on your head which occurs mainly in children age 2-10.
